A quick Thank you to Pastor Craig Groeschel and his team at LifeChurch.tv. They are the ones that have funded and put together this amazing resource for believers. This app has over 10 million users. The posts below are from a few years back. I am just using them for reference to create content for this blog. If you like history, or at least want to know a little about us from the past, check it out.

It really should be called “red scratchy” eye

Ok, one day you wake up with more of than eye gook that normal and POOF I have some weirdo sickness called “Pink Eye”. I don’t know what nerd in our Gov’t named it that, but it’s a real dumb name. Let me rant for a minute. Like my title says, it should be called, the red, itchy, gushy, stinging, blurring eye sickness. For all you geeks out there its real name is “conjunctivitis”. I have never in my life had this before. Never again do i want to have it. I feel like I’m going to infect the entire family or any person that gets in a 5 foot radius of my eye. I did however have fun Wed. chasing around some of the students with my eye.

Well, It gets worse… the pink eye germs realized there was a new untouched area, 1.2 inches away from the left eye they were cannibalizing. Yes, you guessed it, they found a new feeding ground in the right eye. At least I can say it’s been an experience. I pinky promise, pun intended, I will never make fun of any pink eyers again.

Here’s a picture for you visual learners. I now wash my hands every 2 minutes

Stupid Youth Pastor Tricks

One of the so-called benefits of being a youth pastor is that you learn certain tricks along the way, that can sometimes make you cool, to those unsuspecting younglings. I myself, have several “tricks” or weird things, you can do at a table in the local restaurant. Most of them were learned and taught at your local Chili’s. I thought I would share my goofy tricks that sum up my 14 years as a youth pastor.

1. flip the cardboard drink coast from Chili’s
Lay one (or more) cardboard square coaster on the side of any flat table. Hit the coast with hand coming up. As the coast flips in the air CATCH IT with the same hand.
VARIATIONS: a) flip larger amount on coaster at once. b) flip coasts with both hands c) thros coasts at teenager while trying to do this trick.

2. catch the quarters from the elbows.
This one a actually learned years earlier, but it works well with students. Put quarter on your elbows. Try to catch quarters as you thrust you arms down ward. Not as easy as i sounds

3. lick your elbows:
Tell everyone you heard on the news that this guys in New Guinea somewhere learned how to lick his elbows. Now step back and watch the pandaemonium. so much fun to watch.

4. balancing forks on a toothpick:
This is the clincher. I show everyone at the table how to balance to interlocking forks on top of the end of a toothpick straight up. Very cool trick. No explanation of how it works. Just a picture instead. Hopefully, I may get a gig on Jay Leno’s show…

Hope you enjoyed my somewhat cool ramblings about my stupid tricks as a youth pastor. Maybe I can learn some new ones as a senior pastor. maybe

ten years

June 27 marked the date, where Beth actually put up with me for 10 years. lol. I mean… We celebrated our 10 year wedding anniversary. Cool huh. In dog years that would be 70 years of marriage. It seemed yesterday I was standing in front of a bunch of people saying “i do” to the most amazing woman I have ever seen. These years have went by sooooo fast. I still remember the first time I met her. She remains as beautiful as ever. (i am very biased)

So this year we decided to take a few days to ourselves and go down to Galveston. We were going to mix these days with a few days with the girls as a family vacation. (more on that later)

We have had 10 great years together: working in the ministry, starting a family, teaching our kids, trying to make our way in this life. God has been very good to Beth & I. Hopefully she can endure another 10 years with me. Hopefully :)

Down Memory Lane

My family took me to dinner Saturday night, a day early, for Father’s day. Since I have moved back to the Pearland area, I haven’t went back to see my old high school in Alvin, Texas. We went the back way thru Manvel. (I don’t ever remembering that they have a high school, but they do now.) When I drove into town, down the street to my old high school… I noticed everything was different. Not one building was the same. Most of the buildings I had classes in where gone, demolished, torn down. I guess you can say that wishes do come true. lol.

Then on too ACC, Alvin Community College. It is the same. Same buildings, same parking lot. Same grass. Same goofy college police cars sitting in the parking lot. Same. Same. Oh well.

We also went and drove by the church where I accepted Jesus at. It looks somewhat smaller. Some deacon guys where their and asked what i was doing… Haha already in trouble at the church. It reminded me back when i was there and i wore shorts to service. (they didn’t like that at all). I also saw the church I did my first message in. Oh the memories. Hopefully many of you have not stopped reading.

It was cool, i guess. Maybe in 10 years i’ll go back. maybe.
